FAQS
Have questions about getting started or what it’s like to work together? You may find the answer below. If not, reach out and ask—there’s no pressure to have everything figured out before we talk.

I provide online therapy throughout Virginia and West Virginia.
I like that online therapy offers both convenience and an added sense of privacy—especially if you live in a small town and don’t want to be seen walking into a counselor’s office. You can join from a space where you feel comfortable, even if that means showing up in your pajamas.
Technology isn’t always perfect, so we may need to be a little flexible if technical issues come up. I recommend using a computer with a stable internet connection whenever possible.

The free consultation is a relaxed 15-minute phone conversation. We’ll say hello, and we may even talk about the weather for a minute.
Then you can choose where you’d like to start. You’re welcome to ask me questions, learn a little more about me and how I work, or share something simple about what brings you to therapy.
You don’t need to tell me your whole story. This isn’t an intake session. The goal is simply for us to get a sense of each other and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
If we decide to move forward, we’ll schedule your intake session. I’ll send you the paperwork to complete beforehand and make sure you know how to reach me if anything comes up before we meet.
-
We’ll usually start with a little conversation, and I’ll make sure you have a chance to ask any questions about the paperwork or the therapy process. I may briefly review a few important things, such as confidentiality.
I read your intake questionnaire carefully before we meet, so I’ll already have some sense of what has been happening and what may be important to talk about. If you’re not sure where to begin, I can help by bringing up something you shared. If you’re ready to jump in and start talking, I’ll follow your lead.
I’ll probably have some questions, but the session won’t feel like an hour-long interview. The intake paperwork gives me many of the background details ahead of time, which leaves us more room to talk about what feels most important to you.
Before we finish, I’ll check in to make sure you feel okay and grounded enough to return to the rest of your day. Sometimes we may use a breathing or grounding exercise before ending if that would be helpful.

The initial intake is scheduled for 60 minutes and costs $185. This gives us time to talk about what brings you to therapy, your history, and what you hope to work toward.
Ongoing therapy sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes and cost $150. I may extend a session up to 60 minutes when clinically appropriate, at no additional charge.
Extended EMDR sessions are scheduled for 75 minutes and cost $225. I may extend an extended session up to 90 minutes when clinically appropriate, at no additional charge. EMDR can also be incorporated into a standard 50-minute session when appropriate.
Payment is due on the day of your appointment. A credit, debit, or HSA card is kept on file for payment.

Yes. I currently accept Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Virginia through Headway. Your coverage and out-of-pocket cost will depend on your specific plan and benefits.
If I am not in-network with your insurance, you may choose to pay privately and use out-of-network benefits. I can provide a superbill for you to submit for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined by your insurance plan, so I recommend confirming your benefits directly with your insurer.
You are also welcome to work with me on a self-pay basis if you prefer not to use insurance.
-
It is not a bill or a contract, and it does not determine how long you will be in therapy. It simply gives you an estimate of what your services may cost based on the information available at the time.
-
That depends on your goals, what you want to accomplish, and how deeply you want to go.
I usually recommend meeting weekly in the beginning so we have time to build momentum and understand what is happening. From there, we can decide together what makes the most sense both clinically and financially.
I’ll always give you my clinical opinion, but you still get to make your own decisions about your care.
Deeper therapy often takes longer than learning a few coping skills and moving on. At the same time, approaches like EMDR can sometimes help the process move more efficiently. There is no set timeline, and we’ll continue checking in about what feels helpful as we go.

No. You do not have to be a Christian or believe in God to work with me. I welcome clients of all faiths and clients who do not identify with a faith. Your beliefs will only be part of therapy if they are important to you and you want to include them.
